"There are some people that believe that the vast majority of essential oils cause irritation to the skin that you cannot see. Is this true? I know there are some E/O's that are bad for the skin but not all of them. Surely essential oils like Lavender have been used since day dot! If they caused that much damage then people wouldn’t have used them through the ages?"

Essential oils in the purest form should not be applied directly on the skin, as they can potentially cause irritation. They need to be solubilized in a carrier oil, such as Grape Seed Oil. Because concentration of the essential oil is always critical, it's important to use a formula where this has been considered.
